Edo Kiriko

The origina of Edo Kiriko dates back to 1834 in the Edo period when
Kagaya Kyubei, a glass artisan working in Odenmacho, Edo, used emery power to
produce glasswaare engraved with patterns.

In the approximately 150 years since the birth of Edo Kiriko, it has captivated the hearts of many peole.
It was not only Japanese who recognized its beauty.
Commodore Perry sailed the warship into Edo Bay in 1853, was deeply impresed by the artistry and elegance of Edo Kiriko.
Perry’s encounter with Edo Kiriko testefies that its artistic valuse has been recognized across the borders.
We have many kinds of the smilar crafts, however only traditional craft is Hanashyo.
